Who said TIP can't keep it PG-13?

On episode 152, we're doing just that. For the first time in 8 years, you'll now be able to listen to an entire episode of Take It Personal without telling your kiddos to put on their ear muffs. No more lowering the volume or fast-forwarding a track, we got you and your family covered.

Enjoy that car ride together with peace of mind knowing we're here to educate and entertain ya'll, kinda like Bill Cosby, just minus the ruffies.

On episode 151, we're teleporting back to 1995. If you had a 5-disc CD changer in the whip, chances are you had Dah Shinin' in one of those slots.
Tek and Steele announced their presence with authority on Enta da Stage in '93, then dropped the classic Bucktown b/w Let's Git It On single in early '94, which had everyone patiently waiting for their album.
In January '95, the wait was over and Dah Shinin' immediately became a favorite. With their witty harmonizing 1-2 punch, along with the Da Beatminerz, Dah Shinin' was classic upon first listen and the birth of what we now know as the Boot Camp Clik.
We're joined by General Steele, as we go track-by-track with him on Dah Shinin'. Learn all about your favorites, whether it's Timz 'n' Hood Chek, Sound Bwoy Bureill, Bucktown, Hellucination, Let's Git It On or Cession at da Doghillee. Steele shares intimate details about the making of every track, including the remixes and some non-album cuts.
Steele also shares some hilarious and fascinating stories about recording @ D&D Records, Buckshot, Sean Price, working with Mary J. Blige and of course Tupac Shakur.
If you're a Smif-N-Wessun fan or a Boot Camp fan, you're not going to want to miss this episode!

On episode 149, we're honoring this 1993 musical masterpiece. This classic ATCQ album embodies everything that made us me fall in love with hip-hop. It was pure perfection. An absolute game changer and the album that helped usher in the 2nd golden era.
Like what we’ve recently done with Paul’s Boutique, we strip this album completely and build it back using original samples in true TIP fashion. We reproduce this classic that’ll allow you to hear this album in a whole new way.
Get ready to relive 1993 all over again.

On Episode 138, we're paying respects to our late friend and longtime supporter of Take It Personal, Matt "Barkley" Temchatin. Many of you knew Barkley as @HipHopAutographs, as he was one of the most celebrated hip-hop collectors online. Barkley unexpectedly passed away a few months ago, so we wanted to honor him with our last episode of 2023.

Barkley, like myself, started out doing college radio but his love for hip-hop only grew as he got older. He went on to run a record store and work as a record promoter in Philly, later graduating to a family man. His true passion can be seen when you view his IG @HipHopAutographs or if you recall the time he amazed everyone with his appearance on D-Stroy's Show Off Your Gems.

Barkley was a huge advocate of new hip-hop, so on 138, we are playing some of our favorite records that have recently come out in honor of him. We've got new music from Black Milk, Jay Royale, Elcamino, Torae, Beneficence, RJ Payne, Mickey Diamond & Big Ghost Ltd, Vinnie Paz, Little Brother, AZ, Supastition, Smoke DZA, Him Lo, Stu Bangas, The Good People, Edo. G, 38 Spesh, Open Mike Eagle, Blockhead, Paul Wall & Termanology, Lord Sko, Czarface, NapsNdreds and Keanutis Smith & Sense to name a few.

Thanks to all of you for holding us down in our 7th season of Take It Personal. We'll be back in mid-January with Episode 139, our Patreon exclusive. It's our way of saying thank you to all of our Patreon members who have supported us throughout the year and return with a special episode in late-January with some brothers we love.

From all of us at TIP, have a happy and heathy New Year. Enjoy the show.

This one's for your Barkley!
